When new owners Jenna and Jonathan were presented with the opportunity to take over Nelson Tile & Slate earlier this year, they both jumped at the prospect of bringing their two unique skills-sets together to run the business.

What Tile & Slate Do

Nelson Tile & Slate offer a complete service of tile supply, through to installation, working with architects, joiners, interior designers, and builders, helping make the clients vision a reality. An in store qualified interior designer is on hand to help clients put selections together and guide them through the whole process. Providing quotes for supply and install through to the completed installation with one of their team of qualified tilers. 

Nelson Tile & Slate  work varies from large commercial installations to small residential supplies. They stock a huge variety of tiles and are exclusive suppliers for a range of local tiles.

A Clean Slate for Jenna and Jonathan

Looking for a change in lifestyle for their young family, Jen and Jono made the decision in 2017 to emigrate to New Zealand and ended up settling in sunny Nelson. 

Jono was employed by Nelson Tile & Slate Centre as a Tiler, before moving on to set-up his own company, Versa-Tile Your Space Limited. After 3 years of being out on his own, Jono decided to return to Nelson Tile & Slate Centre in a new role overseeing the installation of projects from start to finish. 

Jen has a strong background in project and administration management, with a keen focus on implementing efficiencies and process improvement.  Prior to taking on this new endeavour, Jen was the Administration Manager at WK Strawbridge and was previously employed at another local accounting firm. 

With Jen’s business skills, combined with Jono’s hand-on knowledge and industry experience, this will surely see them continue to grow and develop this well-known local business.

Tile & Slate and WK Strawbridge

Nelson Tile & Slate have been a client of WK Strawbridge for over 20 years and we are honoured to be part of the team continuing to support Jen and Jono on their new venture.

Currently Nelson Tile & Slate  employ five staff consisting of three sales consultants and two tilers, they also contract installation work out to seven local tilers. Jen and Jono have big plans to expand the team with the possibility of future apprenticeships and bringing onboard more experienced tilers from around the region. They are also in the process of updating their showroom with new displays. 

Continuing to support the local region where they live and work in, is extremely important to Nelson Tile & Slate  new owners Jen and Jono. They currently support The Brain Injured Children Trust and are always keen for other opportunities to help their local community.
